Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has criticized sections of the Mount Kenya political leadership and electorate, accusing them of persistently opposing President William Ruto despite what he described as the government’s commitment to equitable development across the country.
In a statement shared on his official social media platforms, Kaluma said there are consequences for continued political resistance, declaring that “for every action there’s a reaction.”
The outspoken legislator argued that some leaders and voters from the Kikuyu community have maintained what he termed as unwavering opposition to President Ruto, even as the government continues to implement development projects in different parts of the country.
According to Kaluma, the Kenya Kwanza administration has adopted a more balanced approach to the distribution of national resources, ensuring that regions previously considered marginalized also benefit from government development initiatives.
He claimed the President’s leadership has promoted equality among Kenyans regardless of their ethnic or regional backgrounds, describing it as a departure from past administrations that were often accused of favoring particular regions.
Kaluma further alleged that a section of Mount Kenya politicians continues to oppose the government because they are uncomfortable with what he described as a more inclusive model of governance and resource allocation.
In his remarks, the MP accused what he referred to as “Kikuyu tribalists” of believing that the country should primarily serve the interests of their community, arguing that such attitudes undermine national unity and cohesion.
He warned that continued political isolation from the ruling administration could have long-term political consequences for the region.
According to Kaluma, if leaders from the Mount Kenya region continue distancing themselves from the government’s broader political coalition, they risk weakening their influence in national politics.
The legislator maintained that political cooperation and inclusivity remain essential for national development and stability, urging leaders to embrace dialogue instead of deepening political divisions.
His remarks come at a time of heightened political activity following the recent Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, which has intensified debate over shifting political alliances in the Mount Kenya region.
The by-election outcome has triggered renewed discussions about the region’s political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election, with both government and opposition leaders seeking to consolidate support.
Kaluma’s comments also reflect the evolving political landscape following the formation of the broad-based government, which has seen several leaders from the Nyanza region assume positions within President Ruto’s administration.
