Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Wednesday hosted Bishop Margaret Wanjiru and her son, former Starehe Member of Parliament Steven Kariuki, for high-level consultative talks at the SKM Command Centre in Nairobi as political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election continue to gather momentum.
The meeting was confirmed through an official statement shared on Kalonzo Musyoka’s X account, where the opposition leader described the engagement as part of ongoing consultations with leaders from different sectors on the country’s future.
According to Kalonzo, the discussions focused on the current political and economic situation in Kenya and the need for collaborative leadership in addressing the country’s governance challenges.
The meeting also explored the role of faith leaders in promoting national unity, peace and reconciliation during a period of heightened political activity.
Bishop Wanjiru, the founder and leader of Jesus Is Alive Ministries, is one of Kenya’s most prominent evangelical leaders and has remained active in both religious and political affairs over the years.
Sources familiar with the discussions indicated that the leaders exchanged views on strengthening national cohesion through dialogue, prayer initiatives and responsible leadership.
They also discussed the importance of building partnerships capable of addressing concerns surrounding governance, economic recovery and social stability.
According to reports, the consultations centred on consolidating ideas and aligning perspectives among leaders from different backgrounds as the opposition continues shaping its strategy ahead of the next general election.
Political observers view the meeting as part of Kalonzo’s broader effort to widen his engagement beyond traditional political circles by bringing together religious leaders, professionals and regional opinion shapers.
The courtesy call comes at a time when Kalonzo has intensified consultations with various political figures following his endorsement by the Wiper Democratic Movement as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.
In recent weeks, the Wiper leader has held separate meetings with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa as discussions continue over possible opposition cooperation.
The series of engagements reflects ongoing efforts by opposition leaders to explore common positions on governance, economic reforms and the possibility of presenting a united front against President William Ruto in the next presidential election.
While no formal political agreement has been announced following the meeting with Bishop Wanjiru and Steven Kariuki, the consultations add to growing signs of intensified political networking as parties and leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls.
