After nearly three months without a victory, Kakamega Homeboyz finally found their rhythm, beating Sofapaka FC 2-0 at Bukhungu Stadium in the opening match of the 21st round. The win lifts them to third place and cuts the gap to Gor Mahia to nine points, a morale boost dedicated to their late defender, Silas Abungana.
The game started at a frenetic pace. Within three minutes, Homeboyz were ahead. Henry Omollo picked up the ball 25 meters from goal and fed Eston Omengo, whose pass allowed Peter Thiong’o to head home past the goalkeeper Brian Olang’o.
Homeboyz pressed on, creating chances, but Olang’o denied Oliver Majaka, while Sofapaka’s attacks through Clifton Miheso and Potiphar Odhiambo failed to find the net. Five minutes before halftime, Omollo came close again, only to see his effort rattle the post.
The second half continued with Homeboyz dominating possession. The decisive moment came ten minutes from full time when Shafik Batambuze struck a brilliant free-kick over Olang’o, sending the ball into the net and igniting celebrations among the home crowd.
This win ends a long drought for Homeboyz and gives them momentum as they chase the FKF Premier League title. Meanwhile, Sofapaka remain rooted at the bottom with just 14 points, their struggle for survival intensifying after 17 years in the top flight.
