NAIROBI, KENYA — Harambee Starlets goalkeeper Lilian Awuor has credited the electrifying home support at Nyayo National Stadium for inspiring Kenya’s 2-0 victory over India, a result that secured the team a place in the final of the inaugural FIFA Women’s Series 2026.
The Starlets delivered a composed performance, with goals from Martha Amunyolete and Tereza Engesha sealing the crucial win. While the attacking duo provided the finishing touch, Awuor’s commanding presence in goal ensured a clean sheet and underlined her importance to the squad.
“Playing at home is always special, but today the fans were on another level. Honestly, they were our 12th man out there,” Awuor said after the match.
The Romanian-based goalkeeper emphasized that the energy from the stands played a significant role in boosting the team’s confidence from the opening whistle.
“When we heard the cheering from the first minute, it gave us so much confidence. This victory is for every Kenyan who came to support us; you made the difference,” she added.
Awuor, who has been in impressive form in recent months, noted that the crowd’s support helped maintain focus throughout the match.
“As a goalkeeper, you need to stay sharp for 90 minutes, and the energy from the stands really helped us keep our concentration. We didn’t want to let the fans down,” she said.
The victory propels Kenya into a high-stakes final against Australia, who recorded a dominant 5-0 win over Malawi in the other semi-final.
The final is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15, at Nyayo National Stadium, with kick-off set for 6:00 PM EAT.
With momentum on their side and home support expected once again, the Harambee Starlets will be aiming to crown their impressive campaign with a historic title on home soil.
