MOMBASA — Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir has directed all public hospitals in Mombasa County to provide free medical treatment for children under the age of five, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to accessible and accountable healthcare.

The directive was issued following a meeting between the governor and the leadership and staff of Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital, where discussions centered on improving service delivery and rebuilding public trust in the county’s healthcare system.

Governor Nassir said the order is part of an executive directive that must be implemented immediately across all public health facilities in the county. He stressed that the policy is non-negotiable and warned that any officer who fails to comply will face firm disciplinary action.

He noted that the county government is focused on restoring confidence in public hospitals by ensuring services are reliable, compassionate, and responsive to the needs of residents who depend on them daily.

During the engagement, the governor and hospital management also reviewed service delivery standards and emphasized the responsibility of healthcare workers to serve the people of Mombasa with professionalism and integrity.

In a further move to enhance accountability in the health sector, Governor Nassir announced that the county will roll out a County Call Center and establish on-site Customer Care Desks starting Monday. The initiative will allow residents to report service gaps, raise concerns, and track the resolution of issues related to healthcare services.

Nassir underscored that accountability is the foundation of effective public service, particularly in the healthcare sector.

The move is expected to bring relief to many families in Mombasa by reducing the cost burden of healthcare while strengthening oversight and responsiveness within the county’s public health system.
