Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his grassroots political consultations ahead of the 2027 General Election, hosting opinion leaders from Gichugu Constituency at his Wamunyoro residence, where he underscored his long-standing personal ties to the constituency while outlining his vision for what he described as the country’s liberation and the formation of a Sixth Administration.
Speaking during the consultative meeting, Gachagua said Gichugu holds a special place in his life because of the years he spent living and working in the area.
“Gichugu Constituency in Kirinyaga County is my second home. I spent nine years of my early life; six years at Kianyaga High School from Form One to Six and three years as a District Officer,” he said.
The meeting brought together opinion leaders from Gichugu as part of Gachagua’s ongoing engagements with grassroots stakeholders, which he has been conducting from his Wamunyoro residence. According to the former Deputy President, the consultations are intended to gather views from local leaders as political realignments continue ahead of the next general election.
Gachagua expressed gratitude to the delegation for honouring his invitation, saying he was humbled by the opportunity to engage them in discussions on what he termed the country’s future political direction.
He said the deliberations focused on the “liberation of our country” and the formation of the “Sixth Administration,” remarks that reflect his continued efforts to articulate an alternative political agenda as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
The Gichugu meeting forms part of a broader 45-day consultative retreat that Gachagua has been holding at his Wamunyoro residence. The exercise seeks to bring together opinion leaders, community representatives and other grassroots stakeholders from different regions to exchange views on governance, leadership and the country’s political future.
The consultations have become a key feature of Gachagua’s post-deputy presidency political engagements, with delegations from various parts of the country making visits to Wamunyoro for discussions on national and regional issues.
By highlighting his educational and professional history in Gichugu, Gachagua sought to reinforce his connection with the constituency, presenting his shared experiences with residents as a foundation for continued engagement.
The latest meeting adds to a series of consultations that are expected to continue throughout the retreat period as political leaders increasingly position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election. While Gachagua has continued to speak about the need for national renewal and broader political consultations, the outcomes of the ongoing engagements are expected to shape his political strategy in the months leading to the next electoral cycle.
