Democratic Congress Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday held a strategic breakfast meeting with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya in Nairobi as the opposition finalized plans for a three-day political tour of Western Kenya aimed at strengthening its anti-government campaign.

The consultative meeting comes ahead of the launch of the tour on Friday, June 12, under the banner of the “United Alternative Government” alliance.

The opposition delegation is scheduled to begin its engagements in Luanda and Mbale in Vihiga County before proceeding through Kakamega, Busia, Bungoma and Trans Nzoia counties. Major stopovers are expected in towns including Malava, Mumias and Kakamega Town.

The tour will bring together some of the country’s most prominent opposition figures, among them Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa, former Attorney General Justin Muturi and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, alongside Gachagua and Governor Natembeya.

According to leaders involved in the preparations, the alliance remains focused on forging a united front ahead of the August 10, 2027 General Election by backing a single presidential candidate against President William Ruto.

During the meeting, Gachagua reportedly briefed Natembeya on his planned 45-day consultative engagements at his Wamunyoro residence, an initiative intended to consolidate support in the Mt Kenya region before negotiations on the opposition flagbearer begin.

Natembeya’s growing role in coordinating the Western Kenya mobilization is seen as strengthening the opposition’s regional networks and positioning him as one of the key voices challenging pro-government leaders in the region.

The three-day tour is expected to intensify political activity in Western Kenya as opposition leaders seek to expand their support base and lay the groundwork for a broad coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
