Under the warm Mombasa sun, Al Shifaa Media Kenya FC turned a previous disappointment into a moment of glory, defeating Green Eagles FC 2-1 to win the 2026 Sisi Ni Dola Cup at Mombasa Sports Club. The victory earned Al Shifaa the championship trophy and a KSh 1 million prize, completing a remarkable journey after finishing third in the inaugural edition in 2025.
Al Shifaa started the final with purpose, taking the lead in the 25th minute through Lawrence Dady, also referred to as Laurence Okoth in some reports. His spectacular overhead kick stunned the Green Eagles defence and gave Al Shifaa a 1-0 advantage going into the break.
The second half produced another moment of brilliance. Mohammed Juma spotted Green Eagles goalkeeper William Mandada outside his penalty area and unleashed a long-range effort from deep inside his own half. The audacious strike found the empty net, doubling Al Shifaa’s lead and putting them firmly in control.
Green Eagles, however, refused to go down without a fight. Fifteen minutes from time, Swaleh Yanga converted a penalty after a handball inside the box to reduce the deficit to 2-1. The late stages became tense as Green Eagles pushed for an equaliser, but Al Shifaa held their ground to secure the historic victory.
For coach Abdulnasser Kassim, the triumph was built on preparation and continuity. Having retained most of last season’s squad and studied Green Eagles ahead of the final, Al Shifaa entered the decisive match with a clear plan that ultimately paid off.
The 2026 Sisi Ni Dola Cup featured 24 teams from Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River and Lamu counties, highlighting the tournament’s growing reach across the Coast. Green Eagles took home KSh 500,000 as runners-up, while Azzam United earned KSh 250,000 after finishing third.
Individual honours also celebrated the tournament’s standout performers. Al Shifaa’s Laurence Okoth was named Player of the Tournament, while Green Eagles goalkeeper William Mandada won Best Goalkeeper. Joshua Oyoo of Fayaz FC and Enock Lemeyian of Juve FC shared the Golden Boot with five goals each, while Ahmed Hussam of Mombasa Kings was named Young Player of the Tournament.
Beyond the trophy and prize money, Al Shifaa’s triumph represents what the Sisi Ni Dola Cup is increasingly becoming: a platform for grassroots talent, youth development and opportunity. For a media-backed team that once fell short, the 2026 final provided the perfect ending to a story of persistence, preparation and redemption.
Al Shifaa had come back stronger. This time, they left Mombasa Sports Club as champions.
