Former Kilgoris MP Gideon Konchellah to Be Buried on June 20

Former Kilgoris Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister Gideon Konchellah will be laid to rest on Saturday, June 20, at his Olalui residence in Kilgoris, Narok County.

Konchellah died on Friday, June 12, at the age of 74 after suffering a cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital. He passed away at approximately 4:00 a.m.

Family members, friends and relatives have been holding daily meetings at the Nairobi Club from 5:30 p.m. to coordinate funeral arrangements and offer prayers.

According to the burial programme, a public requiem mass will be held on Thursday, June 18, at Nairobi Baptist Church along Ngong Road beginning at 10:00 a.m., giving mourners an opportunity to pay their last respects.

His body, currently preserved at Lee Funeral Home, will be airlifted to his Olalui home on Friday, June 19, ahead of a prayer service and public viewing.

The final burial ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 20, at his home in Olalui.

President William Ruto led leaders in mourning the former legislator, describing him as a steadfast champion who served the people of Kilgoris with dedication and viewed public office as a trust bestowed upon leaders by citizens.

Before joining politics, Konchellah served in the military for more than three decades, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He also commanded the Kenya Army Ordnance Corps based at Kahawa.

He represented Kilgoris Constituency in Parliament for nearly two decades between 2003 and 2022 and served in various senior positions in government, including as a Cabinet Minister.

Leaders and residents have continued to pay tribute to him, remembering his contribution to national development and his role in advancing the interests of the people of Narok County and the larger Maasai community.
