Police in Kathiani Sub-county, Machakos County, have discovered two more bodies dumped in bushes at Wandathe village, deepening fears among residents over what could be a series of killings in the area.
The latest discovery came on Sunday afternoon when a resident tending livestock in a nearby thicket stumbled upon the bodies and alerted authorities. The find follows the earlier recovery of a severed leg believed to belong to a child, prompting intensified investigations.
Kathiani Sub-county Police Commander George Kashmir said the newly recovered bodies were intact, confirming that the severed child’s leg found earlier belongs to a separate victim. The grim development points to at least three victims in the unfolding case.
Preliminary reports indicate that the two bodies are believed to belong to a middle-aged woman and a teenage girl. Community members and local security sources said the remains appeared to have been subjected to corrosive substances, raising suspicions that the victims may have been deliberately disfigured to conceal their identities.
Recovery efforts were hampered by the steep and rugged terrain surrounding the crime scene, forcing police officers and local volunteers to spend hours retrieving the bodies and combing the area for additional remains or possible burial sites.
Security teams have maintained a heavy presence in the area as investigations continue.
The discovery comes days after detectives in neighboring Kitui County exhumed four bodies from shallow graves near Mwingi town, adding to growing concerns over a spate of gruesome killings in the lower eastern region.
Police have launched investigations to establish the identities of the victims, the circumstances surrounding their deaths and whether the incidents in Machakos and Kitui could be linked.
