Former Kiminini Member of Parliament Chris Wamalwa has called on Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi to reduce his frequent international engagements and devote more time to local politics ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) event in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, Wamalwa said Mudavadi’s prolonged diplomatic assignments abroad have left a noticeable gap in the country’s political landscape at a time when the Kenya Kwanza administration is consolidating support across the country.
Addressing Mudavadi directly in the presence of political leaders and supporters, Wamalwa acknowledged the Prime CS’s role in representing Kenya internationally but urged President William Ruto to assign him more domestic political responsibilities.
“We thank our Prime CS because he is here today. He has been on many trips; sometimes he has gone to Italy, Dubai, and India, and we want President Ruto to release you from diaspora trips. You should leave them and do politics here locally. A lot of things have been happening because you have been missing in action.”
Wamalwa argued that Mudavadi remains one of the Kenya Kwanza coalition’s most influential political figures and should play a more visible role in strengthening the alliance’s grassroots support as political campaigns gradually gather momentum ahead of the next General Election.
He noted that while international diplomacy is important for advancing Kenya’s foreign policy and economic interests, the coalition also requires experienced leaders on the ground to engage citizens, respond to emerging political issues, and defend the government’s development agenda.
The former lawmaker’s remarks come amid increased political activity across the country, with both the ruling coalition and the opposition intensifying public engagements as they position themselves for the 2027 elections.
Mudavadi has in recent months undertaken several official foreign visits in his capacity as Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, representing Kenya in bilateral meetings, regional summits, and international forums aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties.
His international engagements have included visits to countries such as Italy, the United Arab Emirates, and India, where he has held discussions on trade, investment, labour mobility, and regional security.
Despite his overseas commitments, Mudavadi has continued to reaffirm his support for President Ruto’s administration and recently declared that securing the President’s re-election in 2027 remains a top priority for the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
Wamalwa’s appeal reflects growing calls from some leaders within the coalition for senior government officials with strong political influence to spend more time engaging voters locally as the country edges closer to another election cycle.
