KWALE, KENYA — Leaders of the United Opposition, led by Rigathi Gachagua, have arrived in Kwale County for a series of high-profile political engagements as part of a nationwide mobilization drive ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The delegation operating under the banner of the United Alternative Government (UAG) includes key figures such as Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, and Justin Muturi. Their visit to the Coast follows a two-day tour of the Ukambani region, where they held rallies in Kitui and Mwingi to consolidate support.
In Kwale, the leaders are scheduled to hold stopover rallies in Samburu and Kinango, before converging in Kwale Town for a major inland meeting. The tour will culminate with a public address at the Likoni Ferry area later in the day, targeting coastal residents.
The opposition’s tour is part of a broader strategy to build a united front against President William Ruto in the next election cycle. Central to this effort is the push to consolidate regional support bases, particularly linking the Mt. Kenya voting bloc with Ukambani and Coastal regions.
Leaders within the coalition are also engaged in ongoing consultations to agree on a single presidential candidate a move they believe will strengthen their chances against the incumbent administration.
Beyond political positioning, the rallies have emphasized voter mobilization, with leaders urging citizens to register early and actively participate in the democratic process.
Earlier in the week, Gachagua signaled flexibility in the coalition’s leadership structure, hinting at a willingness to support a consensus candidate. In remarks seen as a nod to unity efforts, he suggested he could step aside for Musyoka if it serves the broader goal of unseating the current administration.
The Kwale tour marks another step in the opposition’s intensifying grassroots campaign, as alliances continue to shift and political strategies take shape ahead of 2027.
