Baraka Chula Meets Fikirini Jacobs After 500km Awareness Walk

Baraka Chula Young innovator today visited the office of Fikirini Jacobs after successfully completing a more than 500-kilometre walk from Malindi to Nairobi aimed at creating awareness and seeking support for his “M Card” innovation.

Baraka, who hails from Marafa, is the brain behind the M Card concept — a digital smart card designed to securely store learners’ academic and health records from primary school to higher learning institutions.

The innovator’s journey has attracted national attention, with many praising his determination, resilience, and commitment to using technology to improve education management in Kenya.

Speaking during the meeting, discussions centered on possible partnerships and support towards the development of a prototype for the innovation. The meeting also highlighted the importance of nurturing grassroots innovations and empowering young people to develop solutions that address challenges facing society.

Baraka’s visit to Nairobi also included a stop at the Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI), where he initiated the patenting process for the M Card idea to protect the innovation’s intellectual property rights.

Further support is expected through engagement with the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA), whose Chief Executive Officer Dr. Tonny Omwansa is set to meet the innovator to explore practical ways of advancing the project.

The government, through the State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting and empowering young innovators across the country.

Baraka was accompanied by Isaac Mwabonje, founder of Kilifi Innovation Hub, which continues to champion youth innovation and entrepreneurship in the coastal region.
