African Buffalo: Strength, Unity and Survival in the Wild

The African buffalo, also known in Swahili as Nyati, is one of the most powerful animals found in the savanna. Strong, tough and highly social, it plays an important role in keeping the ecosystem healthy.

In Meru National Park, buffaloes are a key part of the park’s rich wildlife. They live in large groups and depend on each other for protection and survival in the wild.

Because of their strength and unity, predators often fear them and sometimes refer to them as the “Black Death.” When threatened, they stand together as a herd, showing teamwork and intelligence that helps them defend themselves.

A visit to Meru is more than just seeing animals. From the wide golden plains to the flowing rivers, every encounter with a buffalo reflects the true meaning of strength, community and survival in nature.
