Residents of Kiamuthambi in Kirinyaga County have been left shaken after a luxury Lexus valued at KSh 35 million was stripped of key spare parts in a bold night-time robbery.

The incident took place at a private residence in Kirinyaga Central, where a gang of more than 20 suspects is reported to have descended on the compound under the cover of darkness. Witnesses say the group arrived in two vehicles and quickly neutralized the lone watchman before accessing the homestead.

“They approached silently and tied me up before I could raise an alarm,” said the watchman, Anthony Namanda. “They were highly organized and seemed to know exactly what they were after.”

Family members reported that the attackers sprayed an unknown substance into a bedroom where the homeowner and her female guest were sleeping, causing them to lose consciousness. The two reportedly woke up hours later in hospital, unaware of what had unfolded overnight.

According to relatives, the gang spent several hours — between midnight and around 4 a.m. — carefully dismantling the high-end vehicle before making off with its valuable components.

“This is unlike anything I’ve ever seen,” said John Muriuki Kiama, a relative of the family. “I’ve owned vehicles for more than 40 years, but I’ve never witnessed such a thorough operation.”

Residents suspect the criminals may have come from outside the area, pointing to the level of expertise involved. “These were professionals,” said Anne Mwaniki, another family member. “They knew the car inside out and removed every valuable part.”

Police detectives have since visited the scene and launched investigations, as locals raise concerns over security and call for increased patrols to prevent similar incidents.

The family says the ordeal has left them deeply unsettled, underscoring growing fears about safety even in previously quiet neighborhoods.
