James Milner Makes Premier League History

By Gran Chico | February 21, 2026

James Milner has written his name into Premier League history after becoming the competition’s all-time appearance holder.

The Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder now tops the appearances chart with 654 games, moving clear of former record holder Gareth Barry, who retired with 653 appearances.

Milner’s Premier League journey began in 2002 when he made his debut as a teenager with Leeds United. More than two decades later, he continues to compete at the highest level, now wearing Brighton colours after spells with Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Manchester City and Liverpool FC.

Over the years, Milner has won league titles, lifted major trophies and featured in almost every position on the pitch. Yet this milestone goes beyond silverware. It reflects extraordinary durability, professionalism and consistency in an era where long top-flight careers are increasingly rare.

Managers trusted him, teammates relied on him, and season after season, Milner kept delivering.

Now officially the Premier League’s most ever-present player, James Milner’s record stands as a lasting tribute to fitness, discipline and relentless commitment.
