Comedian Sammie Kioko Speaks Out After Assault as Machakos County Denies Debt Claim

Renowned comedian and businessman Sammie Kioko has broken his silence following his discharge from hospital after sustaining serious injuries during a violent confrontation at Machakos County offices.

The incident occurred on March 31, when Kioko was reportedly assaulted by county enforcement officers while leading a protest over a disputed KSh 19 million payment. The entertainer claims the money is owed for uniforms supplied to the county through a company linked to him during the 2023/2024 financial year.

Medical reports confirmed that Kioko suffered a fracture in his left thigh near the knee, along with multiple arm injuries. He was treated at several facilities before being admitted to Nairobi West Hospital, where he received specialized care.

“I carried a voice that refused to stay silent, stepping into offices with hope and questions for the dreams of many.”

“Through interviews, pain, and attacks, I faced the unthinkable, yet never felt alone.”

“To everyone who stood by me, who prayed, who marched, who spoke up, THANK YOU.”

Meanwhile, the Machakos County Government, led by Wavinya Ndeti, has dismissed Kioko’s claims, stating that he is not a registered supplier in county records.

County officials clarified that the contract for inspectorate uniforms was awarded to a company identified as Movata Designs, not Kioko personally. County Secretary Muya Ndambuki further described the comedian as a “stranger” to the contract, arguing that he lacks legal standing to demand the payment.

Governor Ndeti acknowledged that the uniform supply constitutes a pending bill but explained that payment delays were due to incomplete delivery and the need for proper verification under public finance procedures.

In a notable development, Maureen Mwende Mutua, a director at Movata Designs and Kioko’s sister, later met the governor and apologized for the manner in which the payment demand was pursued. Following the meeting, the county government committed to settling the verified claim through the supplementary budget process.

Despite the assurances, Kioko has maintained pressure on the county, warning of further mobilization if the matter is not resolved.

The incident has sparked wider debate over the treatment of contractors and the use of force by county enforcement officers, with calls for accountability and adherence to lawful dispute resolution mechanisms.
