Chelsea FC’s 2025/26 Premier League campaign has taken a bizarre turn, with the club recording six red cards, the same number as their home wins at Stamford Bridge so far this season.
Sitting fourth in the league with 12 wins overall, Chelsea’s home form tells a mixed story. The Blues have managed just six victories at Stamford Bridge — against Fulham FC, Liverpool FC, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Everton FC, Brentford FC and West Ham United — alongside five draws and three defeats.
Discipline has emerged as a major concern. Chelsea lead the league in red cards, with dismissals involving Robert Sánchez, Trevoh Chalobah, Malo Gusto, Moisés Caicedo, Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana.
The cost of this ill-discipline was again evident in the recent 1–1 draw with Burnley FC. Chelsea were leading 1–0 when Fofana was sent off in the 72nd minute, a turning point that allowed Burnley to snatch a stoppage-time equaliser. It was the second consecutive home match in which Chelsea dropped points from a winning position.
Head coach Liam Rosenior did not hide his frustration after the match.
“From being in winning positions to not win the two games — that’s the biggest frustration,” Rosenior said.
While some fans and pundits have pointed to refereeing inconsistencies, many agree that Chelsea’s lack of composure has played a major role. With 11 matches remaining, improving discipline and game management could be decisive in the race for a top-four finish.
The question now facing Chelsea is simple but urgent: can they turn red cards into results before the season slips away?
